Babies spend a lot of time close to the floor: on a play mat, on the rug, and soon crawling everywhere. Here is a simple way to get ready.
A few weeks before
- Clean the carpets and rugs where the baby will spend time: the nursery, the living room, wherever the play mat will go.
- Leave time for drying, so everything is dry and the room is aired out well before the baby comes home.
- Do the sofa and the glider or rocking chair at the same time. That’s where a lot of feeding and cuddling happens.
Ask about the products
Ask any cleaner what products they use and whether they are safe for kids. We clean with non-toxic, Green Seal–certified products.
After the baby arrives
- Keep a stack of clean, white towels handy for spit-up and spills. Blot, don’t scrub.
- Put a washable throw or cover on the sofa spot you use most.
- Wash play mats and soft toys following their care labels.
“Deep cleaned our carpets and nursery rug before baby arrives. Got out all the toddler stains.” Mariann P., Google review, November 2025
